Sudbury Valley School is perhaps the most well known and oldest democratic school in the U.S. Watch this video to get a sense of what a democratic school is like.
Why a democratic school? Why now?
Note that the School at Kelly's Working Well Farm is not an accredited school. All families must register as home-schoolers with their local school district.

Focus and Intensity

Self Directed Learning
Schedule a time to visit the farm and learn more about the school. If you have some friends who would like to learn more, we can plan a group session. Email Kelly Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have a full-time school (with 2 - 5 day per week options) for children ages 4 to 15 at the farm. The school has these characteristics:
- Democratic community decision making
- Self directed learning
- No age segregation
- Permaculture ethos
- Authentic activities (eg activities that contribute to the farm, school, farm store and community, such as gardening, cooking, natural building, etc)
- Connection with the natural world
This 15 minute TEDx talk by the founder of the first democratic school in France answers many parents questions about this type of education including how students learn math and how they fare after graduation.
