Why a democratic school? Why now?
IMPORTANT: Chagrin Valley School is a non-traditional unaccredited school. All school families must register as Homechoolers with their local school district. It is our understanding that a parent/guardian may withdraw a child from public school at anytime during the year and enroll in our school.
Learning by Living
Chagrin Valley School is held at the farm full-time Monday through Friday, September through May.
The school is for ages 4 through 19 years old and has continuous open enrollment. Part-time attendance is also an option for 3-5 days a week.
Chagrin Valley School offers:
• Self-directed learning
• Democratic community decision making
• Tutoring arrangements for any subject
• Age-mixing which builds social skills
• Field trips & guest workshops
• Entrepreneurial opportunities
• Abundant free play time
• Natural building & gardening
• Connection with the natural world
• Affordable tuition & financial aid
This 15 minute TEDx talk by the founder of the first democratic school in France answers many parents questions about this type of education including how students learn math and how they fare after graduation.
